Group Footpath Secretary (Fylde)

Opportunity image

Ramblers is Britain’s walking charity. We open the way for everyone to enjoy the simple pleasure of walking, and we seek to enhance and protect the places we love to wander.

Where is this role based?

This role is based in the region that covers part of the West Lancashire Coast, from Fleetwood to Lytham St Anne's, across to the outskirts of Preston and back up to Knott-End-On-Sea.

What does the role involve?

You would be coordinating rights of way protection in this geographic area, on behalf of the Ramblers. You would respond to enquiries and communicate with other organisations with similar interests. You might be contacted about footpath obstructions and diversions, as well as planning applications that would have an impact on rights of way. You would investigate the issues either by desk-based research or site visits. You will need to be able to attend online meetings, and occasional public-facing meetings. You would also liaise with the local authority should there be due cause and in the case of diversions, planning etc., prepare objections if appropriate.

Additional training and support will be provided by Ramblers Central Office and you will have access to advice, further guidance and support from Ramblers staff. There is an active area footpath network in Lancashire that regularly meets online. We are currently building our wider team of rights of way volunteers in this area, so please get in touch if you feel you could assist and want to find out more.

By working as the rights of way coordinator for the Fylde Ramblers, you will be playing a vital part in keeping our rights of way network open and enjoyable to use.
