Area Rights of Way Officer (North Yorkshire County Council and York City Council areas)
Ramblers is Britain’s walking charity. We open the way for everyone to enjoy the simple pleasure of walking, and we seek to enhance and protect the places we love to wander.
Which Geographic Areas do we Cover?
We are looking an Area Rights of Way Officer working with members of the East Yorkshire and Derwent Area Ramblers. This role engages with North Yorkshire County Council and the City of York Council, and collaborates with Ramblers groups covering York, Ryedale and Scarborough.
What Does the Role Involve?
We are looking for people who can provide a coordinating role between our different groups and the respective local authorities. We can create a role specific to the applicants concerned based on how much time they can give and their knowledge of footpath legislation. Each group has its own level of knowledge and expertise on footpaths in their geography. Traditionally we work together in a collaborative way to deal with footpath issues that arise. It is important both to ourselves and the local authorities for us to have a single point of contact for raising and responding to matters.
The work typically involves footpath obstructions, diversions and planning applications. Necessary expenses can be claimed.
What Training is Available?
Detailed knowledge of Rights of Way legislation is not a requirement, but we would expect any applicant to develop their knowledge over time. Previous occupants of the role are available for help, as are the group footpaths officers. Additional training and support is also available from our central office staff and on-line support materials.
By working as a Ramblers Area Rights of Way Officer you will be playing an important part in keeping our rights of way network open and enjoyable to use.
If you would like further information on this role, please contact the Area Secretary, Marian Thomas: Thomas.marian@btinternet.com.
